Tommy Lee, the drummer for Mötley Crüe and his wife, Pamela Anderson, recently announced that they are building a $20 million home in the Los Angeles area. Lee and Anderson were married this year and have been making a name for themselves as conscious homeowners ever since. The couple plan to buy nearby property and build a four-bedroom, 4,500-square-foot home that will include a meditation room, guest bed, a private cinema, meditation garden, and a music room.

Tommy Lee’s latest home is a zen sanctuary. The drumming ex-husband of Pamela Anderson is a Zen Buddhist and so he goes by the name of Dogen, which is Japanese for ‘old man.’ The house is located in the Hollywood Hills and is a total retreat from his noisy lifestyle. It’s a 6,000-square-foot home that is on the market for $2.4 million.

Singer Tommy Lee is known for his wild, party-filled lifestyle, but he’s also known for his beautiful, Zen-inspired house in Las Vegas. The home also acts as his recording studio.

A tranquil haven

The rock singer just purchased a Zen-inspired home that spans two lots to accommodate the property’s waterfalls, enchanting paths, lush trees, and Koi pond. The house and gardens are a far cry from the wild half house (complete with a disco in the basement) that Lee formerly had in Malibu, which he showed us around on MTV Cribs.

Calabasas is being left behind.

Lee, who has been attempting to sell his Calabasas house for a year, did not wait for a buyer to come along before relocating. He downsized from his 10,000-square-foot home in 2007, paying $4.15 million for the four-bedroom, Japanese-inspired property.

And, despite the fact that his new home is only 4,300 square feet (about half the size of his previous home), it swaps internal space for spectacular outdoor areas and unique interior details.

A pool with waterfalls, dining deck, fire pit, BBQ island, and enclosed greenhouse-style garden room are all accessible from the vast dining and kitchen space. Double-height ceilings, clearstory lighting, heated floors, a window wall with built-in cabinetry, a garden patio, dual baths, and custom closets characterize the owner’s hideaway.

The home’s distinctive outside spaces are what really set it apart. Tommy Lee’s property is a true refuge home hidden amongst trees and lush foliage, but being just steps away from everything L.A. has to offer.
